"Dear Straight People"

I love this slam poem so much. The humor and the way she talks makes the whole poem amazing. But also the topic she is talking about is so real, and needs to be heard. "Why do I have to prove my love is authentic? Why do I have to prove my love is authentic? Why do I have to prove my love is authentic?"

  1. I am so happy you are taking Creative Writing, not only because I get to have you again, but because you are such an amazing writer. The personal and real deeply informs your work, making it raw and relatable. I love “How Did it End Up Like This?”. Deeply felt and a clever conceit to boot. I am so thankful you have trusted me (and others) to learn about your troubled relationship with your dad in some posts. I can say from the other side (having a deeply troubled father myself) that you will come out okay with some work and some time. It’s so depressing when the adults in our lives don’t act like one, or when we find we are more mature than they are. But it becomes an integral part of who you are that can be reckoned with. You are a natural creative talent and I’m so thankful to have you in my class again. Thank you for your open heart and willingness.
